Jadon Johnson Ms. Lehmann English 2-1B 3 December 2019 Worth the Read Is “With Friends Like These…” worth the read? “With Friends Like These…” is an informational article in which Dorothy Rowe uses her personal and professional experience to inform others about how friends are essential to who we are. No outside research is done for this article, so it is only good for basic information. This article is worth the read for someone who doesn’t know a lot about the psychology of friends. Rowe’s background is important is this article. She has a doctorate is psychology and experience as a psychologist. She writes casually from personal experience. She has no bibliography in her article. In some cases, personal experience is more relevant. I think people will love her article. In my opinion, Rowe’s hook is interesting because she uses her own experience to inform others instead of research. Another thing that makes this article good is her format. She uses section titles that are helpful and practical. Her transitions are also good and move readers smoothly through ideas. Her main idea is evident in her introduction and her conclusion. The only problem with using personal experience to inform is that everyone has different experiences when dealing with the same thing, so her information might not concern you. If you don’t already know about the psychology of friendship, then this is an article you might be interested in. Rowe’s main claim is that validation from our friendships are essential to who we are. Rowe talks about how rough friendships can be. She talks about how people can be reassuring. Rowe also talks about friends. I think that this article could be eye opening for a lot of people about friendship. In conclusion, “With Friends Like These…” was something that I think was worth reading. I think Rowe explained friendship and all of the factors really well so everyone could understand what she was trying to get across. Don’t forget that you most likely don’t want to use “With Friends Like These…” for a research paper because Rowe doesn’t use research in her article. Rowe finishes her thoughts and ideas clearly, and I think she met her goal of informing people using her own personal and professional experience. I think Rowe ended her article well explaining what true friends are. Even though this article is only good for basic information, I think there is a lot to learn from Rowe’s experience. I think “With Friends Like These…” is definitely worth reading and informs most people.
